Rashad Robinson on Accountability and Obama
This is a short video that I recorded during the session Keeping It Real: Political Accountability in the Age of Obama. This was one of many sessions at the Blogging While Brown conference held in Los Angeles.
In this clip, Rashad is talking about how other groups network together to at least get their agenda on the discussion table. What can we learn and emulate is the question.

Quick Recap on Blogging While Brown Conference
I'm stealing a little of my shrinking morning time to say how much I enjoyed the 2011 Blogging While Brown conference in Los Angeles. I do have photos and videos that I will be posting in a few days.
I knew going into the conference my intent was to listen and meet folks. I messed up one time when I found myself talking in one of the sessions but it is the effort that counts.
I feel encourage that there are so many new folks coming on board wanting to use the tools of blogging for advocacy and to generate alternative sources of income. No matter what your purpose is you have to remember the importance of content, good content that will get you to your goal.
And to those misguided souls considering being a payola pimp for products? Nooooooo. Don't do it. Many have crashed and burned following that path of broken glass.
There were a lot of photos and camcorders at the event so I'm expecting a bunch of good stuff appearing soon. Thanks to the sponsors who made the event possible.

Fly the Friendly Skies on the Finally Friday Freakout
I can hear the old commercial in my head. A promise to adventure and new destinations. When I do research on a trip I do check out what other people say about an airline. Years before this video was conceived there was anger at airlines customer service and the handling of consumer complaints.
United? Damn, it was scary bad about them. Not good and not going to get better anytime soon. I don't fly United Airlines. Wait a minute, check out the video first if you haven't seen it.

Back? Ok. Now cruise on over Consumer Reports or any of the other places about airline complaints. Then hit up online consumer reaction before this video. The video isn't about the baggage manglers, er handlers. It was the corporate and front line failure of anyone at United to honor what was put down in print as a recourse.
It wasn't like he didn't try to comply with ridiculous rules it was the rules kept shifting like quick sand. It isn't really just about United. It is your cable company, your HMO or the repair company that shows up three days after they said they would and still jack up the repair.
United has a systemic customer relation problem that they refused to address. So after a year flows by and the video comes out they now apologize and want to use it as a training video?
Dave, just say no man. Please release Part 2 cuz they still don't get it. Don't take no stinking vouchers. United had their time, now it is yours. Go for it and make Canada proud with a few Yanks standing in humble adoration.
While we are waiting for that second dose of medicine, I'd like to remind folks of a mythical airline that was more than willing to give "service." All aboard for Air Fosse. From the movie All That Jazz this is the intro to the Take Off With Us segment.
Those of you about to head out on your airline of choice I strongly suggest you bring your Zi6, The Flip or your still digital camera of choice. We can freak out baggage handlers from coast to coast without a word. An image or recording will do.

Shhs Don't Tell TJ - Tribute by Carl's Fine Films
There is a Whole Paycheck store and a Trader Joe's near me. Now I do like some parts of Whole Paycheck aka Whole Foods. It is a big store. It has lots and lots of food. Lots of very expensive food. Some of it tasty. If I can get out of there with 5 or more items under $20 it is a good day. I stop in about once every three months or so.
Then there is Trader Joe's. Two Buck Chuck (for the time being, there are rumors) Indian food in a box for $1.99 and that cool Greek Yogurt with the Honey (not the store brand,sorry TJ).
Anyway, why type the praises when you can watch the video, not mine because TJ does not allow cameras in the store. Not that it would stop me if I was so inclined.
No rules were broken because the unauthorized but inspirational commercial was shot on Palm Treo, which is a PDA and a cell phone and might have other stuff on it. I don't know.
Dear retail store managers, Sometimes your customers really like your store. Sometimes we tell others that we really like your store. I know that you have been burned by TV news crews in the past. I also know that if someone records something that should not be sold for consumption then attention must be paid. Fair is fair.
Anyway, if you could ease up on being freaked out if you see a camera/camcorder in the store us creative types would really appreciate it. You might get a nice tribute video like this one. Target has some cookies on it shelf that rock and I'd endorse those suckers in a heartbeat. Not naming names because this is about TJ and not Target.
Yo, TJ could you please stock up on cases of Blood Orange soda? Oh, and bring back that non-alcoholic Ginger Beer? That was the best ginger ale I ever had and it has been long gone from the shelf.
Hey, almost forgot. You had a Lamb Mediterranean meal for that was the bomb. It seems to have been replaced by the non-meat Mediterranean which is still cool and I'll eat it but the Lamb one was very tasty. I know times are tight. I'm noticing some changes in the pot stickers but all in all no complaints.
Ok, some of your customers have got to learn how to drive in the parking lot but that is not your fault. Anyway keep the Basil coming and I'll be in soon.

A Million Dollars Without The Music Company or RIAA Having Boo To Say About It
I wake up. I'm feeling good cuz I had a full night sleep. I check my RSS fees for the latest action. I'm reading AppScout and not only is Virgin Mobile Canada exploiting the Spitzer situation but there are people who paid 98 cents to hear his fee for services bed partner "sing."
With her vocal chords. You can sing with other parts of you body but yeah; Two million people. She gets 70% of the total profit.
Me, I want to know exactly how much. So after I found out what is 70% of .98 cents I did the calculations and then cyphered up 0.686*2,000,000 downloads = $1,372,000. In the spirit of one of the classic video bloggers of all time Drinking With Bob I quote, "Are You Freaking Kidding Me"?
Now I'm not hating on her original choice of career. I'm all for it. If the market place wants to pony up pennies to hear what her mouth is doing when it is unoccupied with her other professional duties so be it. I just hope the girl opens a ING account.
Here is the other story being ignored. Besides banks violating your financial privacy and turning information over to the Feds.
Anybody with promotion, not talent can make money quickly independent of the recording companies. A chunk of cash. Over a million dollars worth of cash. No manager, no agent, no A/R or accounting or bookkeeping malfunctions.
Just a bit to the online distributor and the bulk of the cash to the performer. I've been saying this for years. I've been waiting for folks to catch on but I didn't think the example would come quite this way.
Viva la independence and keep those dental dams and condoms handy. Seriously, I give her major props for insisting on protecting herself. If any good comes out this it will be an increase in condom sales by those in the business and those of us just trying to get busy.

Cell Phones For Soldiers - Don't Bogart That Phone
A good friend of mine knows that I like books but don't care for the holidays. So she splits the difference and buys me books knowing I'm not going to kick up too much of a fuss about having one more book in my home.
Anyway, in the box was a bag for recycling cell phones to help the troops call home. Cool. It is real simple. If you got a new phone and don't want to the old one send it to these folks, they will do the good karma thing and fix it so that soldiers stationed in harm's way can call home.
Doesn't really matter how you feel about the war. If you got a spare cell phone and you don't want to contribute to the growing pile of waste then visit www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com
So do it to help someone not feel so alone or do it to help the planet.
